Status is the power dynamic between two characters, two entities. We break it into two categories, High status, and Low status.
High-status characters have the power in their dynamic; low-status characters, therefore, do not. This week, our students took on the roles of Teacher and Student and explored this dynamic in a scene in our improv session. We found some brilliant character choices and, often, some very funny moments from playing the truth in the scene. Status is everywhere in storytelling; in every scene or relationship, the characters present are always trying to preserve this status or change it.
